FAWM 2024 Album called “Degrees of Separation” 03/14/2024
All songs on this album were written during FAWM2024 except for “He Died in Nara”, which Bill White and I wrote a few years ago. It is one of my favorite collaborations with Bill, so I had to include it for this listening party. I am truly thankful and appreciative to all the FAWMers who help make this album come to fruition. Taking that sentiment into account and the work Beto has done on the site to indicate how connected we all are, I had to call this album " Degrees of Separation".
My goal for this FAWM was to write songs in as many genres as possible. So, as I found out exploring new genres can be challenging but rewarding at the same time. This album covers: jazz, Christian revival, folk, pop, jazz fusion and rock.
All backing tracks were written, arranged, performed and produced by yours truly (except for drums on all tracks and the synth loops on “The Summer" and "Confusion 38"). The following played: Bass(@gubna) on “ The Forest is on the Other Side”: Bass (@enigma4711)& drums(@pfoo) on “ The Beast” and Bass (@nancyrost) on “A Better Day” .
Lyrics for: “The Beast”- Chris Smith / “A Better Day” - Nancy Rost/ “The Forest is on the Other Side” - Josh Almond & Garrett Kirby/ “Realize”- Garrett Kirby & Pat Roberts-Wakins/ “ The Summer” Smudgie/ “The State of Grace” - Sherry Somach & Garrett Kirby/“You’re the Reason” - Jamie May & Garrett Kirby/“It’s Not the Way” - Viv Golpira & Garrett Kirby/ “ He Died in Nara” – Bill White”.
Melodies were developed by the individual singers. Except for “Realize” which was by Garrett Kirby & Susan Heslin.
Instruments used; Martin D16, Taylor 114ce, Squire Jaguar Bass, PRS Santana SE, M-Audio piano, Epiphone ES 335, Fender Telecaster, Epiphone Mark II Special.
Production software: Studio One (Ver 6.5.2)
